#10 Discovering Web 2.0 Tools

I enjoyed this exercise. The Web 2.0 Award website I checked out was Pandora Radio. This is a free music program where I can create a station based on an artist that I like. For instance I put in Tom Waits and after listening to a Tom Waits song, I listened to Nick Cave and other artists that were somewhat similar musically to Tom Waits. This program is a really good way to find out about new artists that you might like. Now its playing a song from the soundtrack of The Road. This is depressing. It's really windy out too which only adds to the eeriness.  I also checked out some Google tools. Google Alarm doesn't seem too useful to me specifically because I set my phone to go off before important appointments. The Google Calendar would also not be useful for me because I carry a planner around with me. Google Earth is fun to play around with. I always like finding my house for some reason , like its going to be radically different next time I look at it. Google Earth could have uses in a library if a patron wanted to know where a country or city is located. Google Alarm and Calender could be useful for patrons who are having trouble staying organized and don't want to have to carry a planner and phone around with them.

  1. It's been a while since I've relied on a traditional paper planner. I recall having a similar attitude as yours about using an electronic calendar. I recall a past supervisor requesting I use Google calendar and I did so, but I did so kicking and screaming all the way. At this point in time I cannot imagine a world without it. At the TLC we make heavy use of Google calendar. Our classroom schedule can be accessed by whoever we choose. We also use it to share staff calendars. I'm admittedly a Google fanatic, and Google calendars is just one of the reasons why.

  2. I love Pandora and also use it to find new artists without Pandora I never would have known about the black keys which are one of my favorite bands. My Phone and computer also have alarms so I understand your feelings that google alarm might be a little redundant.
